The fibers are looser than in the genuine leather and the process it undergoes to get its softness may make it weaker. It can be polished easily to maintain its softness. All leather goes through a dye process to mask its faults and add color so leather can fade when exposed to sunlight. The less dye added to a leather piece, the less fading will occur.
